Nigeria’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has made a scathing criticism of the country’s leadership, alleging that there are more individuals involved in fraudulent activities within the government than outside of it. Obi’s comments suggest that corruption is pervasive and entrenched at the highest levels of power, undermining the country’s ability to tackle its myriad challenges. His remarks are likely to spark intense debate and scrutiny of the government’s anti-corruption efforts.
Former Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, Peter Obi has said there are more “Yahoo people” in President Bola Tinubu’s government than those outside.
Obi lamented that those people have turned Nigeria into an entire crime scene.
He spoke while delivering his keynote address as guest speaker at the fourth graduation ceremony of Nexford University.
Obi stressed that Nigeria is at the mercy of corrupt officials feeding from the government.
According to him: “For governance, don’t think when we talk about vices, it is only Yahoo boys.
“There are actually more Yahoo people in government than there are outside because we have turned the entire country into a crime scene where people inside are stealing and people outside are stealing.”
Obi stressed the need for quality leadership to manage the affairs of Nigeria.
“It is about leadership and igniting the future. It is not rocket science, but it is difficult.
“It is being able to have a strong character – the ability not to do the wrong thing,” he added.
