A shocking revelation has emerged from an investigative panel’s probe into Bobrisky’s incarceration, contradicting the socialite’s claims of avoiding jail time. According to the panel’s findings, Bobrisky not only served time but also received preferential treatment, sparking outrage and raising questions about the fairness of the justice system.
The investigative panel tasked with probing allegations that convicted cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, was kept out of the custodial centre while serving his six-month prison sentence has submitted its report, dismissing the claims.
The panel did confirm that Bobrisky enjoyed some special privileges while serving time in jail.
Uju Agomoh, Executive Director and founder of Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA), who is a member of the panel, stated that there was no evidence to support the accusation that Bobrisky stayed outside the prison during his sentence, which lasted from April 12, 2024, to August 5, 2024.
“The panel did not find any evidence thus far that suggested Mr. Okuneye slept outside the custodial center during the period of his imprisonment,”
Agomoh confirmed.
Bobrisky was granted numerous privileges while in custody, including a transfer between prison facilities, specially furnished single cell, access to various comforts, and preferential treatment. The panel recommended further investigation to determine if these privileges were financially motivated and rooted in corruption by correctional officers. It also called for clear guidelines to avoid discriminatory practices based on socioeconomic status in the future.
However, the transfer of Bobrisky between the facilities violated sections of the Nigerian Correctional Service Act, as proper documentation was not provided at the time of his transfer. These documents were backdated and filed much later, breaching protocol.
She clarified that Bobrisky served his six-month correctional sentence with the usual remission applicable to such cases.
