Feast Turns Fatal: Five Worshippers Die, Others Hospitalized at Ibadan Church Event

A tragic incident unfolded at a church in Ibadan, Nigeria, where a community feast turned deadly, claiming multiple lives and leaving dozens hospitalized. Authorities are investigating the cause of the disaster.

No fewer than five people have reportedly lost their lives after eating during a feast in one of the churches in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital

Many church worshippers who also ate from the food prepared were admitted to the Infectious Disease Centre in the Olodo area of Ibadan.

According to an information DAILY POST gathered on Sunday, the incident occurred last week Sunday.

It was learned that scores of the worshippers ate from the food prepared for the celebration.

It was learned that five people reportedly lost their lives after eating the food.

Our correspondent gathered that about 50 of the worshippers who also ate the food were later admitted to the Infectious Disease Centre and had been discharged from the centre.

The 50 people who were admitted to the centre were discharged on Saturday (yesterday), DAILY POST confirmed

It was learned that the feast was part of the traditional events in conformity with the church’s doctrine.

It has not been established if the food was the reason for the death of those who died.

We can also confirm that on Sunday the state ministry of health and other relevant stakeholders have been informed about the incident.

It was learned that an investigation by the relevant stakeholders has commenced.

The Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, when contacted on Sunday, said that an investigation has commenced on the matter.

Osifeso noted that updates would be provided accordingly.

He said, “Investigation is ongoing. Updates will be provided accordingly, please.”
